Should the UK have a wealth tax?

This report introduces a new project to evaluate whether a wealth tax for the UK would be desirable and deliverable. We first set out what has been happening to wealth in the UK. We then define a wealth tax, describing how it compares to existing taxes on wealth in the UK and what makes a wealth tax distinctive. We explain some of the advantages and difficulties with a wealth tax. Finally, we set out the timeline and process for the project.
